Summary:

This position is responsible for supporting a specific Project Engineer or Manager for preliminary design for the product categories assigned to his/her engineering responsibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research theory of operation for automotive electromechanical parts.
  • Learn sensor standards, specifications and test methodology.
  • Learn to comprehend and adhere to specifications and procedures.
  • Learn to complete Lab Test requisitions (LTRs).
  • Learn to do the testing for assigned products.
  • Learn to complete basic engineering documentation such as Engineering Change Notices and release 2D drawings; learn to complete drawings and NPR’s.
  • Learn to support purchasing with engineering approval process for changes in product materials or vendors (includes alternative vendors).
  • Begin learning fundamentals and application of APQP to product development.
  • Use CAD software to design 2D drawings and 3D solid models from physical parts.
  • Participate in design reviews and team project discussions.
  • Create presentations with input and assistance from project engineer for design reviews.
  • Learn to understand interactions between parts and environment.
  • Learn to understand material properties.
  • Learn manufacturing processes and the relationship to designs.
  • Learn the relationships in MRP between BOMs, routings, effective dates, vendors, etc.
  • Other job activities as assigned.

Essential Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; 0-1 years’ experience in basic Mechanical and/or Electrical knowledge and basic thermodynamics
  • Basic Electrical aptitude and understanding of sensor circuits for Engineers with simple electromechanical parts
  • Basic Electrical aptitude for Engineers with complex electronic part types with ASICs, amplifiers and/or Microprocessors
  • Entry level understanding of automotive engine theory a plus
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks or another 3D CAD software a plus
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to maintain safe work environment
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and prioritize assigned work to meet defined deadlines; respond to changing priorities within a project or task
  • Basic computer skills including data analysis, modeling, simulation and problem resolution
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Equipment Used:

  • Measuring equipment such as micrometer, calipers and pin gages.
  • Lab (vision system, microscope, X-Ray) and toolroom (rock saw, drill press, grinder) equipment.
  • Lab evaluation equipment such as power supply, waveform generator, oscilloscope DMM and LCR meter
  • Computer, telephone and other misc. office equipment

Personal Protective Equipment/Clothing Required (PPE):

  • Safety glasses and hearing protection as required.
  • ESD smock and grounding equipment as required.

Qualifications

Education

Required

Bachelors or better in Electrical Engineering.
