Description

Provides clinical therapy to children, adolescents and families on an outpatient basis, as well as education and interventions to clients, their families and the community at large.  Completes psychosocial evaluation reports and other documentation, including treatment plans, and provides ongoing assessment of clients. Acts as a back-up for the Crisis Intervention Program. Examples of Duties

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Provides outpatient psychotherapy to children, adolescents and families. Obtains data for the completion of a psychosocial evaluation leading to the establishment of a diagnosis, treatment goals, objectives, strategies for intervention and overall treatment plans. 
  • Documents assessments, treatment plans, reviews, referrals, and discharge planning and summaries in accordance with professional standards, agency, State and Federal guidelines.
  • Generates correspondence, reports and treatment summaries for referring agents and other authorized service providers.
  • Provides back-up for the crisis intervention program.
  • Performs ongoing assessment of client for risk of harm to self or others, including developing crisis plans and determining level of care when necessary.
  • Bills for all allowable services and submits billing as directed. Ensures State reporting system forms and data collection are completed on a timely basis. 
  • Maintains a timely and complete record for all assigned cases; completes required written assessments, reports, and other related paperwork/documentation as necessary.
  • Develops and maintains professional knowledge and skills to enhance the programs and services provided.
  • Educates clients about available community resources and how to independently gain access to needed services.
  • Consults with supervisors, interdisciplinary teams, and legal counsel on appropriate case-specific matters, as necessary.  
  • Applies federal and state statues affecting mental health clients, to include child abuse, confidentiality and commitment procedures.
  • Provides liaison services between the Health Care Center and community agencies including schools, courts, physicians, and the Unified Board.

Typical Qualifications

Training and Experience:
Knowledge of social work education and training, interviewing skills. Knowledge of psychotherapy modalities, personality theories, diagnostic categories, treatment strategies, psychotropic medications, their use and side effects, and psychometrics. Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations applicable to Mental Health, Substance Use Disorders and the Juvenile Code.
  
 MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Behavioral Therapist – In Training

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Marriage Family Therapy and is in process of completing 3,000 hours of supervised clinical practice under the supervision of a supervisor.   Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Must successfully pass caregiver and criminal background check.

Behavioral Therapist

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Marriage Family Therapy and has completed a minimum of 3,000 hours of supervised therapy. 
  • Currently Licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Professional Counselor within the State of Wisconsin.
  • Must successfully pass caregiver and criminal background check.
  • Possess or be eligible for Medical Assistance provider number.
