Electrical Controls Engineer

Position Summary

Design and specify components for electrical control systems. Program PLC controls, servos, operator interface, and other components for proper machine function. Prepare panel layouts, electrical schematics and related electrical documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design electrical schematics and layout for electrical control panels.
  • Prepare electrical schematics/electrical documentation using AutoCad Electrical.
  • Evaluate and select electrical components for proper application, cost effectiveness, lead-time, etc.
  • Assemble and wire electrical control panels as needed.
  • Oversee/assist with Hard wiring equipment.
  • Prepare part descriptions for purchase and identification purposes.
  • Develop electrical documents for service manuals.
  • Maintain a well organized part numbering system and part/inventory stocking area.
  • Maintain a well organized panel shop.
  • Maintain a well organized filing system and reference library.
  • Oversee/assist with Receiving and inspecting purchased electrical components for stocking/staging.
  • Develop accurate final bills of material for project closeout and costing purposes.
  • Observe and practice safe working procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems.
  • Respond to customer service calls for electrical technical support as needed.
  • Review customer electrical specifications and assist sales with electrical related issues as required.
  • Maintain a schedule for timely completion of projects.
  • Document and maintain electrical engineering standards and procedures.
  • Train and oversee electrical support personnel.
  • Oversee and assist in preordering parts for machine orders.
  • Review and check drawings to insure good electrical design and accuracy.
  • Assist with interviewing new hires for possible employment as requested.
  • Perform additional duties as requested and assigned.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Excellent understanding of electrical schematics/programs/components.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent communication & organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks accurately within acceptable time frames.
  • Ability to solve electrical related problems
  • Experience/knowledge related to industrial equipment.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Familiarity with AutoCad Electrical.
  • Familiarity with spreadsheet/database software
