POSITION SUMMARY:
As a functional Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of design engineers, CAD designers and technicians in the design, development, and validation of marine steering, trim, and other actuator components and subsystems for outboards, sterndrives, pod drives, and other propulsor configurations. This includes electro-hydraulic trim/tilt sub-assemblies, steering components including mechanical cable, hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, and fully electric systems. This team focuses on mechanical design elements and integration, with a strong understanding of electrical components and control strategies to be integrated into these designs. As a leader you must build a strong connection and collaborate with the software design team and electrical engineering teams.
This position is primarily on-site for most working days in our Fond du Lac, Wisconsin world headquarters, with flexibility to work a hybrid on-site/off-site schedule up to two days each working week, as appropriate.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU MUST HAVE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Eight-plus years of experience in mechatronics/hydraulics or similar product development
- Working knowledge of electro-mechanical actuation systems, electrical motors and components, and control systems
- Experience managing/guiding designs through tier one suppliers via functional requirements and specifications.
- New product development experience including all aspects of product life-cycle from concept development, to production release, and production support.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to present technical information to a cross-functional audience
OTHER VALUABLE CONSIDERATIONS:
- Project and/or team leadership experience, demonstrated passion for team building and mentorship
- Knowledge or experience with marine drive systems
- Experience in engineering testing and data acquisition
- Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, including aluminum castings, injection molding, polymers, sealing and elastomeric components, etc.
- Knowledge and demonstration of lean six sigma tools and methods, or design for six sigma tools
- Understanding and application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
