Spark Ops Metalworks is a full-service, one-stop metal fabrication shop in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Established in 2015, our team has over 60 years of collective welding and metal fabrication experience.

Our specialties include fiber laser metal cutting, robotic and manual welding, press brake metal forming, metal stamping, and drafting and design. Spark Ops has fabricated metal components for aerospace, industrial, construction, and entertainment needs. If you can think of it, we can fabricate it.

Job Description

Join Spark Ops Metalworks as a Metal Fabrication Estimator, where you’ll play a pivotal role in assessing costs and crafting bids for metal fabrication projects. Your expertise in evaluating project requirements and understanding material specifications will be essential in providing accurate estimates. With your keen attention to detail and deep knowledge of metal fabrication processes, you’ll contribute significantly to the profitability and success of projects in the metalworking industry.

Estimation and Cost Analysis

  • Create precise and detailed cost estimates tailored to construction projects, with a particular emphasis on site work components.
  • Analyze project blueprints, specifications, and related documents to discern project requisites and constraints.
  • Utilize industry benchmarks and historical data to ensure accuracy in estimations.

Government Compliance

  • Guarantee adherence to government regulations and stipulations throughout the estimation process.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Small Business Administration (SBA) guidelines relevant to government contracting.

Bid Proposal Preparation

  • Collaborate closely with project management and business development teams to craft thorough bid proposals.
  • Produce comprehensive take offs, cost breakdowns, and necessary documentation for bid submissions.

Communication and Coordination

  • Engage in effective communication with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather essential information for accurate estimations.
  • Ensure clear and precise communication with internal teams and external stakeholders to maintain accuracy in project scopes.

Qualifications

  • Possess proven experience as a Construction Estimator, with a focus on government contracts.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating softwares and tools is essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy in estimations.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Valid state Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Military experience is a plus.
  • Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working as an Estimator.
  • Must have hands-on experience with government contract administration with the ability to read and interpret government specifications, blueprints, drawings and technical manuals and understand their impact on costs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform construction cost estimation, including developing cost models and evaluating proposals.
  • Attend preconstruction meetings and site visits to provide technical expertise.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and material estimators to ensure accurate pricing.
  • Analyze subcontractor quotes and advise on pricing strategy.
  • Support responses to RFPs and other solicitations.
  • Develop and maintain project tracking tools and reporting systems.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Assist with billing and procurement administrative processes as well as superintendent duties as needed.
  • Accumulate, evaluate, and track/trend historical cost data and construction procedures/methods to develop and maintain current estimating standards and databases.
  • Actively pursue outstanding proposals, as well as resources to accomplish them, through award or cancellation.
  • Determine methods, specifications, materials, construction codes, and schedules necessary to estimate and complete projects.
  • Obtain timely quotes and estimates for material, labor, and services required to develop cost proposals.
  • Analyze, challenge, and verify subcontractor quotes and estimates for accuracy and best value.
  • Utilize pricing manuals, program software, and other devices such as adding machines, calculators, etc., for the calculation and analysis of job estimates.
  • Utilize scheduling software to develop sequence and activity duration schedules for each proposal.
  • Estimate by analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, scope of work, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates projects.
  • Inspect projects to validate repair/alteration information and produce estimates based upon those checks for all solicitations assigned; conduct the development of schedules and material procurement lists for all tasks, using Government work specifications, drawings, material lists, SARs, technical manuals, etc., to initiate planning and estimating efforts.

Paid Time Off (PTO): Accrual begins after 6 months of employment, resetting on January 1st. You can receive a payout for up to 40 hours at year-end.
