Location: Fond du Lac County Dispatch
Job: Dispatch Worker
Today was an exciting day. Myself, along with my colleague Jillian, had the opportunity to shadow the incredibly talented team at Fond du Lac County Dispatch.
We walked into what reminded me of a top-secret workspace. Giant monitors (and lots of them!), headsets, radios, buzzers, alarms, etc. It was a bit overwhelming, but so, so fascinating.
Jill and I partnered with two seasoned dispatch workers. They ladies, along with the rest of the team there, were fantastic. Being on the front-end of our county’s emergency system, the team in dispatch are some of the calmest, collected, and kind people I’ve ever met.
Good news….they’re hiring! The training for this role is extensive (and paid!!). Key traits they look for when hiring are the ability to type at least 40 words-per-minute, ability to multi-task, have a high school diploma (or equivalent), and most important, common sense.
This role does require a flexible work schedule. They work 6 days on, 3 days off (including days, nights, weekends, and holidays). Additionally, those in this role are eligible for county benefits (and they are great!).
