Supports NPD Scientists in the areas of executing research and conducting experimental pilot plant and production runs for new cheese products and line extension activities. Provides support for laboratory activities, document review, record keeping, data collection, and presentations. Responsible for sample coordination and submission, logistics, sample preparation, sample tracking, and sample report documentation.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
1.Cheese Technology New Product Development and Research Activities
a. Under direct supervision of the NPD Scientists, will support and assist new product development activities.
b. Execute experiments as directed by NPD Scientists on the benchtop and at the pilot plant and assist scale up and validation process to launch.
c. Support development of cheese from concept through commercialization
d. Support of trials and experimentation
e. Help create and maintain appropriate documentation including technical and experimental plans, experimental design records, and product specifications.
f. Provide hands-on manufacturing line support for new products
g. Actively participates in NPD project meetings and updates
2.New Product Development Laboratory Support
a. Performs lab work utilizing established methods and techniques for NPD Samples; follows procedures within framework of applied science. Provide accurate and reliable test results.
b. Responsible for sample preparation, equipment calibration & operation, experiment set-up & clean-up
c. Physical and Chemical Tests including, but not limited to: Moisture, salt analysis, butterfat, proteins, total solids, pH, titratable acidity, various bacteriological testing, inhibitory substances, environmental and other tests as directed
d. Commissions, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, pH meter, protein analysis equipment, milk/whey/cheese component analysis equipment, automated titration equipment, laboratory balances and other equipment
e. Troubleshoot basic equipment and testing procedures
f. Perform routine calibration and maintenance on laboratory equipment
g. Assists with semi-complex laboratory work under some supervision.
h. Writes and maintains laboratory SOP documents
3.Recording Data and Communication of Results
a. Effectively communicates results of testing (written and oral)
b. Entry of results into databases and spreadsheets and preparation of reports, charts, and graphs for NPD Scientists
c. Maintains and ensures the scientific quality of project data and ensures that proper scientific protocols are used
d. Assist in analysis and interprets scientific data; makes conclusions and recommendations that are scientifically sound
a. Maintains confidentiality within all aspects of work.
b. Ability to work occasional weekends and off hours as needed.
c. Demonstrate commitment to safety, quality, and food safety in the job environment.
d. Other duties and responsibilities as requested or required

Qualifications & Requirements
Associate’s Degree in Dairy Science/Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or other related discipline required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Dairy Science/Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or other related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience & Training
•One (1) or more years of related work experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
•Good analytical, math, and problem-solving skills
•Strong computer skills in MS Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel)
•Prior history of actual lab bench time experience and the ability to demonstrate knowledge of proper laboratory techniques, whether by job experience or prior education.
•Attention to detail, exceptional organization, time management and communication skills and computer literacy.
•Various Electronic Laboratory Equipment
Associates Degree or better in Biology.
Bachelors Degree or better in Biology.
