Local History and Genealogy Librarian

The Fond du Lac Public Library is seeking an engaging, creative, and customer-focused Local History and Genealogy Adult Services Librarian for its Information and Outreach Services department.

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest and special affinity for local history and genealogy while working with fun, knowledgeable co-workers. Successful employees thrive on constant change and continuous improvement; embrace new technologies; and cultivate strong community partnerships.

Under the general supervision of the Information and Outreach Services Coordinator, all Librarians are responsible for fostering community partnerships; developing programs for adults; answering reference, technology and readers’ advisory questions; managing the library’s collection of materials and electronic resources for adults; and monitoring trends in technology and website design.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Collecting, developing, and curating local history and genealogy resources.
• Developing successful and well-attended programming for adults, utilizing library staff and community experts.
• Establishing and maintaining community partnerships (particularly with the Genealogy and Historical Society) on behalf of the library.
• Answering reference and readers’ advisory questions and genealogy inquiries.
• Assisting customers with technology.
• Selecting, displaying and withdrawing adult materials as assigned.
• Developing pathfinders, bibliographies, instructional materials, articles, etc., to promote library collections and services.
• Leading and participating in project teams and committees.

The Fond du Lac Public Library is a vibrant, customer-focused library, circulating over 400,000 items annually with a collection of 200,000+ items spread over two locations. In addition to traditional library materials, the library circulates computer projectors, board games, guitar effect pedals, cake pans, and outdoor games.

The Library’s makerspace, the Idea Studio, offers a test kitchen, recording studio, woodworking shop, 3D printers, sewing machines and various other equipment for public use.

The City of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin is a picturesque and thriving community of over 43,000 residents located at the southern tip of one of the country’s largest inland lakes. Known for its world-class fishing, windsurfing, snowmobiling, hiking/biking trails and abundant wildlife, the Lake Winnebago area is a four-season outdoor playground. Just an hour from Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay, additional cultural and recreational opportunities abound. Residents enjoy a low cost of living, short commute times, and a low crime rate.
