Maintenance I

RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Director of Maintenance
SUMMARY: Assists with maintaining the mechanical systems of the motherhouse building complex as well as maintenance of all CSA buildings and properties. Able to work as a member of a maintenance team.


  • Assists with preventive facility maintenance including maintenance of boilers, refrigerators, freezers, plumbing and sprinkler systems.
  • Assists with repair and maintain various types of machinery used to maintain building systems and properties.
  • Able to perform building inspections according to the inspection schedule.
  • Able to assist with maintaining an aesthetically pleasing and functional outdoor space. These duties include assisting with planting flowers and shrubbery, mowing lawns, trimming shrubs and trees, and weed eating.
  • Operates and maintains snow removal and grounds-keeping equipment (i.e., snowplow, snow blower, lawnmowers, chainsaws. etc.)
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. with a back support belt.
  • Available to take on-call duty as needed.

CSA Properties

  • Receives and executes requests from director of maintenance and fulfills the requests appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Assists with minor plumbing repairs, carpentry projects, and painting.
  • Assists with snow plowing.
  • Assists with property maintenance including mowing, tree planting and clearing the woods.
  • Assists with cemetery maintenance.
  • Assists with land conservancy maintenance as directed.
  • Assists with addressing invasive species populations on CSA conservation easement. This may include hand pulling, mechanical treatment, and/or chemical treatment.


  • Assists with periodic preventive maintenance with professional checks of all HVAC and safety systems. Keeps a preventive maintenance log.
  • Checks boilers and HVAC system on a daily basis as assigned.
  • Monitors HVAC system nights, weekends, and holidays from home using the electronic system maintenance phone app.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to director of maintenance immediately.
  • Checks equipment for cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Maintains general upkeep of the following: light bulb replacements, electrical fixture repair, plumbing, carpentry needs, and equipment needs.
  • Winterizes building and grounds seasonally.
  • Maintains safe driveways and sidewalks.
  • Maintain tractors and machinery.

Building Systems

  • Monitors automated building controls; assists with routine generator maintenance and inspection.
  • Assists with maintaining the fire alarms and sprinkler systems.
  • Assists with routine elevator and fire safety tests.


  • Is responsible for maintaining cleanliness in all maintenance areas of the motherhouse and the maintenance building. Maintains an orderly, efficient, and adequately equipped equipment rooms.
  • Keeps area of work neat, clean, and orderly.
  • Disposes of discarded materials and refuse in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Complies with safety regulations in the use of equipment.
  • Uses back support belt and other safety equipment as needed.

Financial Stewardship

  • Assists with the annual budgeting process.
  • Discusses out-of-budget expenditures with the director of maintenance prior to purchase.
