About the Job:
Design custom machines consistent with established engineering specifications according to size, capacities, performance and other requirements.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Handle all aspects of design engineering work.
- Create and modify drawings per redline changes via ECRs.
- Occasionally communicate with customers in the form of telephone calls, emails, meetings and presentations to understand and define their needs.
- Understand and respond to customer requests, both verbal and written.
- Design product to meet all requirements.
- Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Read and interpret customer specifications, technical drawings, sales drawings, and 3D machine models.
- Research, design and evaluate mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet specified requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions or deficiencies.
- Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.
- Investigate equipment failures and improper operation and make recommendations to resolve the issues.
- Research and develop models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification.
- Evaluate and select components and parts for the machines.
- Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
- Manage several projects at one time.
- Assist drafters in developing the detail drawings of products.
- Assist manufacturing, quality and planning as required.
- Develop working relationships with fabrication, machine builders, and Production Manager, and develop better cooperation for working together toward producing the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost.
- Act as technical resource for product field support of customers, service personnel and field sales, assisting in addressing and resolving questions and problems.
- Participate on cross-functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing, design, and quality problems, and ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes and methods.
- Suggest ideas for new products.
- Stay current in new developments in the industry.
- Keep informed of new parts or methods to improve products or product designs.
- Oversee installation, operation, inspections, testing, maintenance and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications
- Handle all changes and problems related to product assigned.
- Follow all housekeeping procedures.
- Comply with all quality and safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications, Education, Skills:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and three to five years of related experience, or seven to ten years of progressively responsible related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional journals, and blueprints.
- Ability to write reports and documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
