The Role

Burke is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern located in Fond du Lac, WI. This role supports the design and development of new playground components and systems. It is a great opportunity to be introduced to Engineering and product design job functions. You will have the ability to customize existing products to meet customer design requirements. Additionally, the role will work to improve functionality, improve safety and quality, and support cost reduction efforts.

  • Assist Design Engineers with 3D models, CAD drawings, drawing details to support new product development timelines
  • Develop Installation Instructions for new products
  • Assist with structural analysis for new product concepts. 
  • Assist with physical set up and testing of new products in the prototype phase.
  • Research and analyze market position and data such as competitive products and specifications, price versus cost, and annual usage to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Help investigate new materials and manufacturing methods to achieve design requirements.
  • Support the design and development of playground components that meet marketing objectives, fit different product lines, and meet required quality and      safety standards.
  • Creates  2D & 3D CAD models
  • Develops installation instructions and drawings
  • Helps develop product specifications, bills of materials, product costs, and marketing release information. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred), proficient with Microsoft Office, knowledge of inventory management software. 
  • Ability to create shop drawings for manufactured parts, weldments and assemblies. 
  • Desire and ability to work hands-on to assemble prototypes and evaluate prototypes for improved design development.
  • Ability to problem solve: define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and then implement solutions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with personnel from other departments.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Enrolled in secondary educational program related to Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
