Position Title:  Mechanical Engineering Technician

Location: Fond du Lac, WI

A Die Casting Mechanical Engineering Technician will be a critical engineering team member in Mercury’s aluminum foundry (Plant 17) with responsibilities directly related to die cast tooling and tooling logistics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interact with production and engineers on machine requirements and mechanical needs/ improvements
  • Assist in cell layouts
  • Assist in robot gripper improvements and new designs
  • Assist in robot reach studies
  • Assist in fixture improvements and new designs
  • Communicate tooling needs from within the plant to our outside tooling vendors
  • Participate and assist continuous improvement activity related, but not limited to, ergonomics, ISO, Safety, 5S, and Lean Six Sigma
  • Track tooling changes including revision and part number changes, and report due dates to the engineering team
  • Help schedule tooling deliveries and shipments, and coordinate repairs with help from production planning group, Manufacturing Engineers and tooling vendors
  • Working with die repair to ensure spare and backup components are available.  Order replacement components as needed from the various vendors
  • Help manage our vending system in Die Repair and tool crib

Successful candidates must demonstrate:

  • Ability to produce results independently and within groups/teams
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills with a proven record to effectively participate in a cross-functional team
  • Strong attention to detail, project execution, and time-management skills
  • Ability to excel in an extremely dynamic and constantly changing manufacturing environment

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 2 Year Technical or Engineering based degree
  • Knowledge of high pressure die casting and finishing operations
  • Proficiency in MS office software including Teams, SharePoint, and Planner
  • Team player who thrives in a foundry environment
  • Understanding of scheduling systems for tooling and interacting with outside vendors
  • Keep safety in the forefront of all handling and loading activities
  • Experience with 2D drafting, engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: 4 years (Preferred)
  • Robot Experience: (Preferred)
  • Availability to work full-time (40 or more hours per week)
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and engaged learner
  • Need to be able to communicate effectively
  • Ability to occasionally lift to 35 lbs.
