General Statement of Duties
Under the direction of the Media Director, the Media Operator Assistant sets up, operates, and
monitors a range of television broadcast equipment for The Ripon Channel. The Media Operator
Assistant also assists in the implementation of department technology, special projects, and other
broadcasting assignments.
Examples of Work

  • Performs a range of duties capturing and preparing audio and video material for
    broadcast on The Ripon Channel.
  • Operate camera and lighting equipment at a variety of community/regional events and
  • Setup recording equipment and operation of community meeting broadcasts.
  • Be responsible for the careful transport and operation of video and accessory equipment
    as necessary.
  • Perform post-production video editing, including adding graphics, closed captioning, and
    special effects.
  • Assist in the management of department social media pages.
  • Provide video archiving and equipment inventory support.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the department supervisor.
    Required Knowledge Skill and Ability
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule on a regular basis, including nights and weekends.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to provide operational support for studio and remote site television production
    and post-production activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of on-air and remote broadcasting processes and
  • Ability to test and evaluate audio/visual signal quality at the point of production,
    transmission, and reception.
  • Skill in the setup, operation of state-of the-art commercial audio-video broadcasting

Acceptable Experience and Training
High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and
responsibilities specified, or any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to
indicate ability to do the work. Previous training or experience with professional AV equipment
is preferred. Valid driver’s license is required.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Limited physical work, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50
pounds. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require
following basic safety precautions. Work may involve limited exposure to unusual elements,
such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, weather, and/or loud noises. Access to a working
automobile is required.

Pay Range
$13.18 – $15.16 per hour
