Personal Service Assistant for CSA Sisters

RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Local Coordinators

JOB SUMMARY:
Performs a wide range of support activities for the sisters who reside at Nazareth Court and Center and St. Francis Home. Works in collaboration with the Local Coordinators and other CSA team members to provide specific services that foster a life-giving environment and quality of life for each sister at this vital stage in her life as a Sister of St. Agnes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Some experience in a healthcare environment and a comfort level to work with medically related situations.
  2. Willing to develop knowledge of the aging process and the ability to work with the frail elderly with a compassionate and respectful demeanor; comfortable being present to others through the end-of-life journey.
  3. Willing to develop knowledge and understanding of religious life, and specifically the mission and terminology of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes.
  4. Willing to function within the guidelines of the mission of the Congregation and the policies and procedures of Nazareth Court and Center and St. Francis Home.
  5. Possesses the flexibility and readiness to assume a wide range of responsibilities to enhance the lives of the sisters.
  6. Comfortable being a team member.
  7. Enjoys reasonable health, energy, and vision; able to move and handle sisters in walkers, wheelchairs, or motorized scooters; transport or carry up to 50 pounds.
  8. Possesses a valid, unencumbered driver’s license
  9. Demonstrates good communications skills, verbally and written
  10. Has adequate technology skills: particularly computer skills, use of cell phone
  11. Responsible to know and follow safety and emergency policies and procedures within the workplace and when driving
  12. Understands and is comfortable in a workplace with occasional exposure to blood, body tissues, and infectious diseases.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as a part-time member of the CSA team for the sisters at Nazareth Court and Center and St. Francis Home by providing the following services:

  1. In collaboration with the CSA Nurse Consultant, drives and accompanies sisters to medical and dental appointments; communicates follow-up information from appointments to the nurse consultant; drives sisters to volunteer activities, when necessary, and other personal appointments
  2. Learns the on-call phone duties and shares a rotating schedule of nights, weekends, and holidays with the Local Coordinators and the Chaplain/Spiritual Care Coordinator.
  3. Serves as an assistant to the Local Coordinators to meet the daily personal and communal needs of the sisters in the following ways:
    a. Takes time to listen, read, and visit with the sister residents and encourage the sisters to join with others in daily creating of community
    b. Communicates needs/wants of the sisters to CSA team for follow-up
    c. Assists sisters with reading of their mail and letter writing
    d. Accompanies sisters for walks or wheelchair rides indoors or outdoors, personal shopping trips, help with care of clothing, tidying of individual rooms, and other personal needs as requested or assigned.
    e. Assists with office work, preparing of communications, special events, as needed and assigned
  4. Upholds HIPPA and confidentiality of health and personal information
  5. Accepts other responsibilities as assigned.
  6. Participates in monthly staff meetings
  7. Participates in an annual performance review
