Position Summary:

The Regulatory Compliance Engineer is responsible for understanding and interpreting US and international rules and regulations applicable to outboard and sterndrive/inboard marine engines. The Regulatory Compliance Engineer will prepare exhaust emissions applications for outboard, sterndrive, and inboard spark-ignited and compression ignited marine engines for certification to US Environmental Protection Agency, California Air Resources Board emissions standards and international regulatory standards. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and interpret and communicate worldwide regulatory requirements and standards
  • Collect data and information to prepare and submit exhaust emissions applications for spark ignition marine engine certification to US EPA and California Air Resources Board (CARB) rules
  • Manage production line and in-use testing requirements for regulatory certification
  • Prepare and submit quarterly and annual regulatory reports to US EPA, CARB, and Environment Canada
  • Manage certification of engines and components to European Union Directives and standards and UK regulations and standards
  • Manage and evaluate exhaust emissions data; make certification recommendations based on exhaust emissions test data
  • Work with thermodynamic engineers to determine engine emissions levels to optimize fleet emissions averaging
  • Participate in development of ISO standards related to exhaust emissions test procedures
  • Improve regulatory compliance processes through application of Lean Six Sigma tools
  • Support sustainability efforts with emission data calculations
  • Manage Sharepoint site for storage and retention of regulatory certificates and related compliance documentation

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • General engine knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of regulations
  • Knowledge of exhaust emissions testing
  • Knowledge of emissions test equipment and instrumentation
