Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program
  • Communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to education stakeholders
  • Maintain current and appropriate resources for education stakeholders
  • Use the majority of time providing direct services through the Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning and Preventive and Responsive Services, and most remaining time in program management, system support, and accountability
  • Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group and grade-level activities to meet student needs and school goals
  • Incorporate into their programs the life skills that students need to be successful in the twenty-first century
  • Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans
  • Accurately and appropriately interpret and utilize student data
  • Provide individual counseling to students with identified concerns and needs
  • Consult and collaborate effectively with parent(s)/ guardian(s), teachers, administrators, and other educational/ community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs
  • Assist teachers, parent(s)/ guardian(s), and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills
  • Uses available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program
  • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession
  • Periodically review school counseling program to review extent of program implementation and effectiveness
  • Collect and analyzes data to guide program direction and emphasis
  • Monitor student academic performance, behavior
  • Facilitate the transition of students between building levels (8th to 9th)
  • Facilitate the transition of students new to the district
  • Coordinate student screening/ survey efforts related to AODA and mental health
  • Assure that appropriate, accurate information is maintained in each student’s permanent, cumulative record
  • Participate in building and district level crisis response and recovery teams to develop and implement action plans
  • Plan and/or promote programs which enhance the academic, social or emotional growth of students (ex: Curriculum Fair, Career Fair, Underclass Honors Assembly & Senior Honors Program, Graduation, opportunities for student enrichment and/or remediation, scholarship opportunities and parent informational programs)
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) evaluations and meetings as requested
  • Create and oversee of student Section 504 Plans
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences as requested
  • Participate in Student Success Teams and the RtI process to develop and implement academic and behavioral action plans for identified students
  • Coordinate the provision of student education related to the topics of alcohol/ drug use, protective behaviors, mental health, etc.
  • Coordinate annual Bully Awareness education and activities
  • Coordinate implementation of school wide SEL instructional programs
  • Making necessary schedule changes for individual students that are both appropriate for their abilities and aligned with their educational and career plans
  • Assist in the development of individual student and master schedules
  • Conduct student interviews and appropriate follow-up in cases of self-harm and suspected abuse/ neglect
  • Manage the process of obtaining permission to release information to outside health and service providers; collection, logging, and sending of student records and information
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Pupil Services
