SEED Bilingual Pre-Service Teacher (LTE/Seasonal – Academic Year)

Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio makerspace team is looking for flexible and versatile Bilingual Pre-Service Teachers (PST) to support the delivery of the 2022 – 2023 Academic Year Design Lab program, an innovative arts-integrated day camp for 3rd-5th grade students. Bilingual PST will also support the bilingual communications needs of students and families.

Depending on performance and if desired, this part-time seasonal opportunity could be extended into the 2023-2024 academic year (approximately 40 hours/semester).

Design Lab is part of the 2021-2026 STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) Ecosystem Expansion Demonstration Project (SEED Project), funded by the U.S. Dept of Education’s Assistance for Arts Education (AAE) grant and administered by Dramatic Results, a non-profit educational arts agency. The goal of the project is to develop communities’ capacity to create and sustain high-quality, engaging, and equitable STEAM programs for underrepresented students in an effort to build arts-integrated educational pathways to a more diverse creative workforce, with project sites located in California, Maryland and Wisconsin.
2022/2023 Academic Year Design Lab has 15 workshop dates, however individual PSTs do no have to be at each of them. PSTs will be hired on an ongoing basis. Dates are:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Think critically about diversity, equity, access and inclusion (DEAI) and its impact on delivering culturally relevant programming
• Flexibly assist with bilingual communications needs that arise, including translation of written text and interpretation of spoken language with students and families
• Work collaboratively with a co-teacher and independently to deliver high-quality programming; with a special emphasis on social emotional learning practices
• Nurture professional and positive relationships with colleagues and partners
• Facilitate established SEED/Design Lab curriculum as needed
• Be on-time and ready with materials and agenda prior to program start
• Demonstrate mindfulness when working with students and educators
• Be accountable for paperwork, scheduling, and meeting deadlines
• Be ready to pivot in cases of emergency in alignment with library procedures

Day in the Life: Clock-in and join your team at the Idea Studio to welcome students for the day! It’s Saturday, so after you’ve taken attendance students will be working with artists on an activity that focuses on expanding creative confidence. You ask open-ended questions that encourage this week’s group to make connections to last week’s photography lesson. Your professional development focus is on utilizing strategies from the leadership team that promote arts integration. You’ve got some follow-up questions for the Program Manager/Liaison that you’ll make sure to bring up in next week’s check-in, but for now you clock-out with a smile, knowing you positively impacted students in need.

This LTE/Seasonal position is dependent on grant funding. Continuation of work beyond May is not guaranteed.
Hourly pay: $25/hr
Schedule: Variable; up to 40 hrs/wk during program delivery and training. Some flexibility available if arranged at time of hire.
