Sports Commissioner/Youth Sports

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community
through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct leadership, instruction
and motivation for participants in assigned sports program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Be comfortable working to implement the Mission Statement of the YMCA.
    The Fond du Lac Family YMCA is a non-profit charitable association dedicated to putting Christian
    principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
  2. Acts as a positive role model using the YMCA’s core values of honesty, caring, respect, and
    responsibility.
  3. Plans and instructs assigned sport program in accordance with YMCA standards, having prepared
    lesson plans accordingly.
  4. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each
    other and the YMCA.
  5. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers. Ensures tracking and reporting of
    volunteer hours.
  6. Maintains participant records as required (i.e. rosters, attendance, etc.).
  7. Prepares and maintains program site and equipment. Organizes and puts away program equipment.
    Reports damaged equipment.
  8. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety
    procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  9. Assists in staff and volunteer meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  10. Trains and supervises program assistants as assigned.
  11. Conveys information on sports programs and schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED
  2. Must be passionate about assigned sports program
  3. Previous experience working with children
  4. Must be able to move effectively through all program areas; be able to lift and carry 5-50 pounds;
    perform physical functions necessary to program instruction, including but not limited to squatting,
    bending, kneeling, spotting program participants and demonstrating the use of program apparatuses
    or program skills.
  5. Ability and current license to drive with record that meets YMCA standards may be required
  6. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred
