Department Opening: Upward Bound Math and Science

Marian University’s Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) program is seeking part-time instructors to teach in its six-week Summer Academy, which are typically held from the third Monday of June through the last Friday of July.

The UBMS program provide participants with a summer instructional component that is designed to simulate a college-going experience. This component includes daily coursework in various disciplines, as well as other educational enrichment activities that are either required or permitted by federal regulations.

The UBMS Summer Academy is held primarily on the Fond du Lac campus. Various out-of-town enrichment trips are often organized as a collaborative effort between the UBMS program’s instructional team, the administrative team, and community partners.

UBMS is a federally-funded grant program supporting eligible high school students from the school districts of Fond du Lac and North Fond du Lac. Summer Academy participants range from rising 9th graders to rising 12th graders.

Specific needs for instructors are in the following areas:

  • Applied Technology
  • World Languages
  • Laboratory Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Arts
  • Music

Primary Responsibilities:

Teach courses for two days a week during the course of the six-week UBMS Summer Academy. The preferred delivery method is in-person. However, special circumstances may require that courses be taught in remote/online or hybrid modalities.  

General Qualifications

At least a Bachelor’s degree is required, with a minimum of three successful years of high school teaching in the identified areas of study.

Additional preference includes:

  • Experiences in learning management system platforms.
  • Willingness to support the mission and core values of Marian University.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who hold:

  • A Master’s degree in related fields and who have teaching experience at the college level.
  • Experiences with Higher-Education teaching, both in-person and online modalities.
  • A Wisconsin Teaching License.
