Job Details:

· Full-time

· First shift, overtime and some potential flexibility on start time.

As a Welder/Machine Builder at Marchant Schmidt you lay out, fit, and weld fabricated, cast, and forged components for final assembly of food and dairy equipment by performing the following duties:

Select equipment and plan layouts for welding and assembly of each project.

Lay out, position, align, and fit components together to blueprint specifications.

Secure and TIG weld parts on stainless steel equipment, monitoring for warpage and metal fatigue.

Inspect final part for squareness and flatness. Straighten as needed using heat, press, clamps or other methods.

Assemble parts per assembly drawings and/or engineering instructions.

Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and rewelding per instructions or blueprint drawings.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

1-year minimum previous TIG welding experience required.  Previously assembly experience preferred.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and layouts. 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Certified, or the ability to be certified, to operate a forklift and overhead crane.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Able to meet the physical demands of the job, with or without accommodation:

  • Frequently stand and walk; occasionally bend, stoop, kneel and balance.
  • Lift and/or move 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Use manual dexterity to move and inspect materials.
  • Have the visual acuity to see near, far, and peripherally with good depth perception.
