Sign Shop Technician

The City of Fond du Lac is accepting submissions from qualified candidates for a Sign Shop Technician.

Under general supervision, this position will primarily be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the City’s Regulatory, Warning and Wayfinding signs throughout the municipality’s jurisdiction. This work must be completed in accordance with State and Federal guidelines, outlined in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). As regulations within the MUTCD change, this person must understand and work on the implementation of these changes, while maintaining the same amount of service/productions within the existing sign program.

General Qualifications and/or knowledge and willingness to learn the following include:
• Install and maintain local regulatory, warning and wayfinding signage throughout the city in accordance to the Federal Manual of Uninform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
• Paint traffic and pedestrian control markings on road surfaces (seasonal)
• Install temporary traffic control signage for events, work zones and seasonal operations
• Design and produce custom designs for specialty signs, vehicle logos/lettering and will-call needs of the City
• Winter Road Maintenance (Plowing using Patrol Truck with Side Mount Wing, Salting)
• Oversee seasonal staff when assisting with assigned duties in the field
• Set up and take down of voting equipment for Local, State and Federal elections
• Cleaning and basic equipment maintenance
• Independently manage inventory of supplies for annual operations directly relating to the sign shop
• 3 – 5 years of progressive experience relating to municipal operations
• 1 – 2 years’ experience directly relating to traffic signage and code
• Possession of a valid Wisconsin Commercial “Class A” Driver’s License without air brake restrictions and with tanker endorsement
• Confined Space Entry

SALARY RANGE: We offer a competitive compensation package $23.32 – $29.98/hour ($29.56 – $36.77/hour with employer health benefits and WRS match) based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities with potential to receive additional step increases based on meeting and/or exceeding goals/expectations; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.
