Adaptive Program Instructor

The Fond du Lac Family YMCA is hiring adaptive instructors to provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for participants with unique abilities in swimming and/or gymnastics classes and to positively model and reinforce the YMCA’s core values and mission statement while providing a safe, welcoming environment where members and guests of all ages, cultures, and abilities can learn how to swim.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs lessons based on the participants needs in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
  • Builds relationships with students and parents, helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
  • Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service training


Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Experience or a background in Special Education
  • Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, current Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to work with participants of all abilities and provide program modifications as needed
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper techniques (training provided)
  • Ability to lift equipment and to lift a small to average sized child
  • Demonstrate swim and/or gymnastics instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards(training provided)

WAGE SCALE: $12/hr based on education/experience

WORK DAYS: FLEXIBLE HOURS; SET YOUR SCHEDULE
