Description

The job of a Braille Transcriber is to translate printed text into braille for blind and low-vision readers. The Braille Transcriber is responsible for a variety of Braille transcription work, assists teachers with the preparation of classroom and teaching materials, and tactile modification of print representation for students that have visual impairments.

LOCATION: East Central Wisconsin. Award-winning schools and staff. Sixty miles north of Milwaukee on Highway 41. Easy driving distance to University of Wisconsin systems located in Oshkosh, Madison, Milwaukee, and Green Bay. UW Campus (two years) and Marian University (four years) located in Fond du Lac. City population and surrounding area which constitutes the school district, approximately 45,000.

SCHOOLS: 14 schools – one high school, grades 9-12 with an alternative high school option; three middle schools, grades 6-8; nine elementary schools, grades 4K-5; and one STEM charter school serving grades 6 – 12. Individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Certification as a Literary Braille transcriber from the Library of Congress. Certificate for UEB course completion. Advanced knowledge of the Nemeth code. Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction License for Special Education Program Aide.
