Crane & Construction Support Equipment Technician

Summary
Under general supervision in the Yard, the crane and construction support equipment technician performs a variety of repairs, along with having the ability to operating power construction equipment to check performance, and fill in an emergency if needed. Technicians are also responsible for performing inspections to guarantee that equipment is working correctly, being maintained, and is safe to operate.

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain cranes, telehandlers, skidsteers, semi trucks and trailers, etc, and be competently able to assemble and operate said equipment to check functionality and performance per OEM guidelines.
  • Coordinate machine maintenance and repairs with onsite availability.
  • Perform and monitor the need of specialized repairs, hourly maintenance, annual maintenance, weather in the field or shop.
  • Perform all tasks with a strict adherence to all safety regulations.
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, or other workers.
  • Have a good understanding of electrical, hydraulics, and use of schematics.
  • Be able to trouble shoot, diagnose, and find a timely solution.
  • Be familiar with laptop diagnostics/repair for emissions problems.
  • Be able to identify/predict potential issues before a failure.
  • Be able to safely operate many types of equipment to check functionality.
  • Ability to work by themselves, with vendors, order parts, hit deadlines.
  • Understand preventative maintenance schedules per OEM.
  • Work from FDL Yard and perform service calls as needed.

Required Education and Experience 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of apprenticeship program
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and willing to travel in WI
  • Commercial driver’s license as may need to fill in as needed
  • Completion of OSHA 10 preferred
  • Qualified Rigger and Signalperson certification preferred
  • 5 years mechanic experience with heavy equipment, cranes, semi trucks and trailers, telehandlers, skid loaders
  • General set of tools for performing role
