The City of Fond du Lac Public Library is seeking a Library Page within the Circulation department whose schedule will be an average 12.5 hours per week, typically 2 evenings (4:15 – 8:15) and every other weekend (Sat morning or afternoon), including Sundays (11:45 – 4:15). Additional hours may be available in summer.
The work involves routine clerical and support tasks assigned by the Circulation Team Leader or the Assistant Director of Operations. A regular schedule of evening and/or weekend hours, including Sundays, will be required.
Circulation Library Pages are not scheduled to work at service desks. Employees must be able to work independently and maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor while working throughout the library.
Requirements include:
- Able to work independently and self-motivated to complete tasks
- Able to sort and shelve books and other materials in proper alphanumeric order
- Able to pay close attention to detail
- Able to follow instructions and properly complete assignments given by Supervisor or other appropriate staff
- Able to work cooperatively with others
- Able to exhibit a positive attitude and personal qualities necessary to produce high quality public service
- Must be of legal working age
- Minimum 1 year of high school
Tasks listed below are for illustration purposes only. The exact duties may vary according to an employee’s schedule. They are not exclusive and do not constitute a contract.
A. Provides collection maintenance and circulation support services
- Empties materials from return bins and outdoor book drops
- Clean, Check in and sorts materials
- Arranges materials in proper alphanumeric order onto carts for re-shelving
- Shelves books and all other materials from carts onto public shelves in proper order
- Inspects (“reads”) stacks and other shelving units to insure that materials are in proper order and corrects any problems discovered
- Keeps stacks and shelves orderly by properly aligning materials and adjusting support brackets and bookends
- Shifts materials; dusts and cleans shelves
- Clears abandoned materials from public areas; shelves materials in their proper places or deposits them on sorting carts in work room
- Searches stacks for reserves, claimed returned and mis-shelved items
- Checks in newspapers and puts them out for public use
- Removes outdated issues of newspapers and magazines as assigned
- Cleans lightly soiled books, repairs loose book covers
B. Assists in the closing of the library building
- Straightens public furniture; clears abandoned items
- Politely and tactfully warns patrons library is closing
- Checks and locks appropriate doors throughout library
- Evacuates bathrooms
- Records turnstile count
C. Performs other duties of a similar nature as assigned

B. Education/License/Certification Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of high school
C. Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, stooping, climbing, and reaching
- Ability to work long hours while standing (a typical shift is 4-5 hours)
- Talking and hearing
- Far vision at 20 feet or further and near vision at 20 inches or less
- Handling: picking up and shelving materials
- Fingering: writing, sorting, applying labels
- Lifting, carrying: 30 pounds or less
- Ability to push or pull a cart of materials on wheels weighing 60 – 80 pounds
- Ability to go up and down stairs up to ten times an hour
