Mortgage Loan Processor

Position Summary:

Serve as a liaison between the member, Mortgage Loan Representative and the credit union or client.  Responsible for processing mortgage loan applications received from Mortgage Loan Representatives and coordinating services with third party contractors to complete the mortgage loan.  Responsible for completing all functions in compliance with regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Gather background information on loan applications, researching any discrepancies.
  • Initial review of HMDA entries for accuracy and completeness.
  • Accurately update mortgage loan tracking records.
  • Verify employment, assets and credit history of persons applying for loans.
  • Review title work to ensure lien and ownership information is acceptable.
  • Review appraisal and flood certificates to ensure value and location meet loan requirements.
  • Maintain a filing system and procedures to monitor that the required documentation is received and reviewed in a timely fashion.
  • Send out credit notices to spouses when necessary.
  • Stack, review and submit completed files to underwriting department.
  • Coordinate with Mortgage Loan Representatives to gather and clear underwriting conditions.
  • Promotes and provides excellent customer service by effectively communicating and cooperating with internal and external customers.
  • Audit physical and electronic file for completeness and compliance.
  • Purge loan files by destroying out-of-date or unnecessary loan documents.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of loan file information processed.
  • Ensure documents are maintained and stored in compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in policies and procedures, standards. and regulations applicable to MCU and the mortgage industry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the Mortgage Loan process, and associated documentation.
  • Knowledge of regulations and laws associated with residential lending.
  • Ability to determine incomplete, inaccurate, or missing information.
  • Ability to liaise with others to build internal relationships and explain needed information.
  • Title, Appraisal, and income review knowledge.
  • Ability to follow set processes and maintain consistent standard of quality.
  • Above average computer skills.
  • Strong orientation to detail.  Accuracy in entering data. 
  • Ability to build internal relationships with lending staff, and counsel others on the loan process and needed documentation. 

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Associate’s College Degree in Finance, Business, Math, Accounting, or related field a plus.
  • Certifications related to Lending and Loan Processing desirable.
  • 1+ years mortgage loan processing experience desired.
  • Experience of consumer and commercial loan processes a plus.

Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):   

  • Long periods of sitting will occur regularly.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving 15 lbs. or less.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, or crouching may be required.
  • Ability to verbally communicate in person and telephonically.
