Job Title: Service Technician

Reports To: Automation and Controls Manager

SUMMARY:
The Service Technician is the primary point of contact for customers. The role will lead
customer-facing and internal customer support including commissioning, installation, startup, warranty, and customer paid service. This position plays a vital role in creating long term customer relationships, acting as a bridge between customers, products, and internal
teams.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical assistance and resolution when electrical problems are encountered before, during, and after manufacture.
  • Assemble electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data.
  • Install and maintain electrical control systems.
  • Modify electrical prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations.
  • Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated operating conditions, and record results.
  • Perform a wide variety of highly technical duties including commissioning, start-up, and repair/refurbishment of complex and sophisticated electronic and mechanical equipment in customer’s plants.
  • Instruct/train customer personnel in the correct operation of equipment.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers and other personnel to identify, interpret, define, analyze, and resolve problems.
  • Keep clear trouble shooting records in the service database, and produce clear, complete, and accurate technical reports in a timely manner.
  • Modify and maintain PLC and HMI programs.
  • Perform remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and asking pertinent questions.
  • When not traveling, work in the shop performing machine wiring, panel building, programming, and testing duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications, Education, Skills:

  • Ability to travel 20-60% of the time as required.
  • Computer and electronics knowledge; processors, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Mechanical knowledge; machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Mathematical Knowledge; basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
  • Production and processing knowledge; raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of equipment.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools.
  • High level of professionalism; reacts well under pressure, treats others with respect, follows through on commitments.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Programming software knowledge; Allen Bradley PLC, HMI and Servo programming.
  • Ability to read and understand electronic schematics and drawings.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Customer focused, self-starter.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, fluid environment with varied temperature conditions.
  • Engage and follow up with customers.
